Big Bear Lake, CA - Transporting Big Bear High School athletes to and from athletic competitions is a costly venture and one the Bear Valley Unified School District is struggling to fund.
But have no fear, the Bear Backer Athletic Booster Club is stepping up to the plate to supplement district funds so the athletes and their coaches can participate in league and non-league games.

On Friday, August 13, Bear Backer volunteers will be staging a barbecue from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the deck at Bear Mountain Resort (43101 Goldmine Drive) complete with hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, chips and beverages. Proceeds will help defray the transportation costs for the current athletic season.
The event is a great time to meet the student athletes, their coaches and parents and enjoy a delicious meal for only $10 for adults and $5 for children 11 and under.
And, for an extra fee homemade desserts will also be available.
FUND-RAISING
In addition to the barbecue, there will be opportunity drawings and the various athletic teams will be offering "official" merchandise for sale.
There will also be opportunities to dunk the likes of principal Mike Ghelber or other administrators and teachers and maybe even head football coach and athletic director Dave Griffiths.
